This Sunday, it were the Deggendorf Black Hawks who celebrated their fourth victory in a row. The former division 2 champion Fursty Razorbacks were defeated due to an outstanding performance by Running Back Jan Pav, who scored three touchdowns, 27:14.
The very first drive brought the first points on the board for the guests from Lower Bavaria, who crossed the field for 80 yards with runs by RB Pav and nice catches by WR Tommie Lee Hughley. Jan Pav took the ball into the endzone and kicker Daniel Eisenrauch set the score 07:00.
But the Razorbacks showed their will not to give in and the former division 2 team showed why many coaches in the league see them as the most underestimated team: RB Markus Palm made the defense look old one time after the other and scored an impressive TD for the 06:07 score at the end of the first quarter.
The Black Hawks offense had their problems executing their game plan, mostly because of 3 missing starters. Nevertheless, the Black Hawks went back to business and RB Jan Pav carried the kick off back for a 90yards TD-return. Kicker Daniel Eisenrauch finished the field goal and the Black Hawks went for their half time break with a 14:07 lead.
In the 2nd half, it was once again RB Markus Palm who scored against the Black Hawks defense and the score went tight 14:14. But the Black Hawks from Deggendorf once again showed their true determination to win and QB Alexander Schwarz found TE Rouven Haban with a 40yards pass, taking the game to the opponent’s one yards line. FB Olaf Wiedemann took his chances and scored his first TD of the season, Kicker Daniel Eisenrauch added one point for the 21:14 lead.
In the last quarter, it was once again RB Jan Pav who took the ball “to where it hurts” for the final score of 27:14.
The team of Head Coach Frank Littich now has the time to enjoy two weeks off. The final game of the first half of the season will be taking place at June 12th in Regensburg, against the so far unsuccessful Regensburg Phoenix. The home game in Natternberg will hopefully be the 5th win in a row, more than necessary, considering the outstanding performance of the two direct competitors for the division title, the Rosenheim Rebels and the Koenigsbrunn Ants.
