The Italian champion Bergamo Lions have named John Rosenberg as their Head Coach.
Rosenberg goes to Italy for the first time after many years as a successful Head Coach
and Defensive Coordinator in the German Football League. Bergamo has been the perennial champions of the Italian League, and won 3 consecutive Eurobowl championships in 2000, 2001, and 2002, and was runner-up in 1994 and 2004.
Rosenberg won the German Bowl in 2002 as Head Coach of the Hamburg Blue Devils, and in 2004 was the Defensive Coordinator of the Braunschweig Lions. He has also been the Head Coach of the Berlin Adler in 1995 and the Munich Thunder in the FLE in 1994. He was the Defensive Coordinator of the Cologne Crocodiles in 1998 and 1999 and the Munich Cowboys in 2000 and 2001. Overall, the teams he has coached with in Germany have won 78 % of their games.
In the USA, Rosenberg was an Assistant coach at Penn State for 11 seasons under the legendary Coach Joe Paterno. While at Penn State, Rosenberg was the Defensive Backfield Coach with the 1982 National Championship team, and coached in 3 Sugar Bowls, 3 Fiesta Bowls, 2 Cotton Bowls, 1 Orange Bowl, 1 Gator Bowl, and 1 Liberty Bowl. He also was the Head Coach at Brown University in the Ivy League from 1984 –1990. He coached in the USFL professional spring league in it’s first season in 1983.
The 57 year old Rosenberg is a graduate of Harvard University with a degree in Social Psychology and has a Masters Degree in Education from Penn State. During the off-season from Europe, he lives in the Los Angeles where he has done radio broadcasting, and writing and editing for movie and TV projects with sports themes.
